For the Locals: (Rome, Camden, Oneida, Utica, etc.)
Although a great many of our adult actors are brought in from New York City auditions, we are always eager to audition talent from the local area of central New York right here, either at our music rehearsal studio in Rome, NY or at the theatre at Beck's Grove.
Several actors from the local area have been with us for many years...and many performances. One who is presently working for us has almost 1600 performances on our stage.
Experience is, of course, helpful, but even though your resume may be a bit on the thin side, talent, skill and a good work ethic is what we're really looking for.
And, speaking of what we're looking for is: An all around talent. You need to be able to sing well, move well, be trim and fit, and, above all, be an actor. Obviously, the more skills you have such as dance and the ability to read music will be definite assets. And, last but definitely not least, be a good team player. You'll be living and working in very close company for several weeks at a time.
So, if you're a local community theater type or someone who wants to give this professional theatre business a try, and are available during the days all week long (virtually all of our performances are 2 PM matinees,) give us a call to set up an audition. All actors are on salary from the first day of rehearsals. Call either Janet or Rod Foote at 315-336-2336 or email us at producers@chathamtheatre.com
*A final note to all:
If you get the answering machine when you call....Speak slowly and clearly when leaving your name and phone number, especially if you are calling from a cell phone which often suffer dropouts and interference. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to repeat your name and number S-l-o-w-l-y.)A lot of actors have missed callbacks because we couldn't understand their message. Basically, pretend you're on stage...Because you are!
Actually, it was updated on Nov. 23, 2009. For some reason the above won't delete.
